Florida HIV Needs Assessment

What is the Florida HIV Needs Assessment?

The Florida HIV Needs Assessment is a survey conducted by the Florida Department of Health (DOH). The survey asks people living with HIV in Florida questions about their healthcare. It only takes about 5 minutes and is completely anonymous. It is an opportunity for People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) to share their thoughts about HIV-related services, care, and treatment with DOH. This survey provides the DOH information to address the needs of the community through state and federally funded programs. Please click the link at the bottom of the page to take the Florida HIV Needs Assessment.

Why is it important?

The survey tells the Department of Health what a community might need to better serve those with HIV. The information is used to help guide decisions in the State of Florida Integrated HIV Prevention and Care Plan 2017–2021, which is the state component to the National HIV Strategy. Feedback will help to improve services for all PLWHAs in Florida. Your answers will help the DOH and your local Planning Group decide how to fund and improve services in your area. Orlando Immunology Center works in conjunction with those entities to improve services for our entire community.

Who should take the survey?

Everyone that lives in Florida and that has HIV. The survey is of the entire HIV community, regardless of where they receive care or are even in care. It should include participation from those that go to a private doctor, those that go to their local health department and even those that have been diagnosed but are not yet seeing a doctor. The more input from People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) the more accurately DOH can assess and then address the needs of the community.

Who is collecting the information?

The AIDS Institute and the University of Florida help conduct the survey and compiles the data. It is completely anonymous and no personal data is collected. The survey will be open from October 3, 2016 – January 25, 2017. If you have questions or would like to request paper copies of the survey, please contact Maya Luetke at the University of Florida at (352) 273-6067.
